MRH Athletes Shine On and Off the Field
Soccer season is long over, but the rewards are still rolling in for several standout MRH scholar-athletes.
On December 16, three players named to the All-State roster will be feted at the 2017 Missouri Honors Banquet and Hall of Fame Induction at the Peachtree Center in Columbia, Missouri.
The honorees are Isaac Pearson, named to the All-State First Team... Zachary Barton, Second Team... and Jose Verdia, honorable mention.
The MRH Blue Devils soccer squad finished the 2017 season with a 16-8-1 record before falling to Brentwood in the Division 2 championship game on October 21.
Also reaping a high honor is MRH senior Aaron Meuser. He is one of only 30 students statewide to be named to the 2017 Missouri Soccer Academic Team, a highly select group from all four classes who have excelled both on the field and in the classroom during their high school careers.
Nominees are first screened for soccer excellence based on information provided by their coach of their playing success and other contributions to the team. Players who meet the criteria for soccer excellence are then evaluated academically using a combination of their GPA and ACT scores. Players must also participate in more than two additional extracurricular activities in order to be considered. The top players on this objective ranking are placed on the Academic Team.
