MRH Alum Inducted to National Wrestling Hall of Fame

With his family at his side, Alfred "Skip" Watkins proudly addressed the crowd gathered in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Sunday afternoon, site of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

A 1965 graduate of the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District, Watkins donned the HOF green jacket as he and four other reknowned figures in the wrestling world were inducted for lifetime service to the sport.

Watkins was a standout on the MRH wrestling team. After a brief teaching tenure in the Hancock School District, Watkins returned to MRH as a faculty member, where he served for 30 years. In addition to teaching at MRH, Watkins served as the school’s athletic director and head wrestling coach, where he guided numerous MRH athletes to state medalist finishes.

Just one year ago, Watkins was inducted into the MRH school district's Hall of Fame.
