Cooking and Nutrition Class Offered at MRH High School
The Heights is offering a 6-week cooking and nutrition class that takes place at the MRH Teen Kitchen. The course runs Sept. 13 through Oct. 18 and is being taught by the MRH Early Childhood Center’s head cook, Almut Marino, who is a registered dietitian and a certified chef. The class is open to the public.
The class is called L.E.A.N. Start in the Kitchen. L.E.A.N. stands for lifestyle, exercise, attitude, and nutrition – the four pillars of health. In this course, Marino will add culinary, thrifty, and eco-wise twists. Each session consists of two sections: a 50-minute interactive nutrition lesson and two hours of hands-on food prep.
Participants will learn how to control proportions without measuring devices or goofy props, how to pack a school lunch that kids will love, how to identify good and bad carbs, how healthy foods work inside the body to keep it healthy, how to prepare delicious, healthy, and affordable meals in under 30 minutes, and much more.
Classes are Mondays, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. MRH Teen Kitchen. The cost is $130 for Heights members and residents (Richmond Heights, Maplewood, Brentwood), or $160 for non-residents. Register by calling The Heights at 645-1476. Class is limited to 12 participants.
